Turbidity sensor comparison study

A new Siltflux paper discussing differences in turbidity measurements between 12 different turbidity sensors is now available online (free access till July 06, 2017).

Article title: Measurement differences between turbidity instruments, and their implications for suspended sediment concentration and load calculations: A sensor inter-comparison study.

  • Five-fold differences in measured turbidity were observed across different sensors;
  • Variations were found not to be dependent on the measuring principle being used;
  • Different sensors with turbidity-SSC ratings give comparable sediment load estimates;
  • Using turbidity as a proxy for SSC has implications for environmental monitoring.
