About Dr Fiachra O'Loughlin
I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Civil Engineering since December 2016. My key research areas are: Remote sensing and water resources, especially the use of satellite observation to improve our understanding of large-scale systems; hydrological and flood inundation modelling accounting for uncertainties in observations and model parameter space.
I am a graduate of UCD for both my undergraduate and PhD. After my PhD, I was appointed as as a Research Associate in the School of Geographical Sciences in the University of Bristol. I worked there for three and a half years on a Leverhulme Project on "Understanding the hydrodynamics of the Congo Basin". In 2016, I was appointed a Senior Lecture of Hydrology in the University of the West of England. I was module leader on a range of modules both at undergraduate and masters level. In July 2016, I took up a Senior Research Associate position in Civil Engineering in the University of Bristol working on "integrated water resources assessment in data sparse trans-boundary river basins".
