CatchmentTools – Project Website

The ‘Catchment Management Support Tools for Characterisation and Evaluation of Programme of Measures’ project, or CatchmentTools Project, developed data analysis tools and models for assessing nutrients in Irish catchments.

SmartCoasts – Project Website

The overall aims of the project are to build on the results of the partners’ INTERREG II project “Achieving EU standards in recreational waters” in applying the predictive tools developed for integrated pollution budget analysis and computer modelling of “point” and “diffuse” sources of pollution to ensure sustainable management of high quality shellfisheries and recreational water environments in Ireland and Wales.

Environmental Impact of Road Drainage

Pathways Project

The Pathways Project focused on developing the understanding of critical source areas in Irish catchment with particular focus on characterising and modelling contaminant pathways. Field studies were targeted at improving the understanding of contaminant transport along different hydrological pathways, including their associated impacts on water quality and river ecology. The contaminants of interest were phosphorus, nitrogen and sediment. The working Pathways conceptual model included overland flow, interflow, shallow groundwater flow, and deep groundwater flow. This research informed the development of a set of Catchment Management Support Tools (CMST) comprising a Base Map Exploration Tool (BMET), Catchment Characterisation Tool (CCT) and Catchment Modelling Tool (CMT).

Hydrofor (Project website)

The Hydrofor Project is a multi-disciplinary, multi-sector cooperative project to investigate the effects of coniferous forests and forestry operations on Ireland’s surface water quality and aquatic ecology.

WINCOMS

Funded by the EPA, this project examines the use of Decision Support Systems for selecting measures for implementing the WatEr FRamework Directive in Ireland. It looks at individual decision support systems and their implementation as well as how stakeholders interact with them.

Phosphorus Modelling

Ms. Iqbal M. Salih

Funded by a TEAGASC Walsh Fellowship, this project integrates the HSPF hydrology model with the SWAT Phosphorus model within a GIS framework.

Assessment of Radar for flood warning in Ireland

Mr Fiachra O’Loughlin

Funded by UCD’s Ad Astra Scholarship scheme, theis project assess the potential contribution of radar to flood warning in Ireland.

Integrated GIS and Neuro-fuzzy analysis for use in River Basin District management.

Dr. Ahmed Nasr

Funded by an EPA, postdoctoral fellowship this project develops generic tools for fuzzy modelling of a variety of phenomena in river basin districts.

Modelling of Water Quality In Dublin Bay

Ms. Zeinab Bedri

Continuing a long line of hydrodynamic modelling research at CWRR, this project applies a 3-D model to examine water quality impacts in Dublin Bay.
